Born and raised in Massachusetts, she attended Harvard University for undergrad and received her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). As of 2016, they have pledged more than $4.6 billion to charities.

Her parents were ethnic Chinese refugees who fled Vietnam in refugee boats to escape oppression from the Vietnamese Communist government. She grew up speaking Cantonese and served as an interpreter for her grandparents. She has two younger sisters. In 2003, she graduated as class valedictorian from Quincy High School, and was voted “class genius” by her classmates. According to a Facebook post by Mark Zuckerberg, Chan is a Buddhist.

On July 31, 2015, Zuckerberg announced that he and Chan were expecting a baby girl. He said he felt confident that the risk of miscarrying was low so far into the pregnancy, after Chan had already had three miscarriages.
Baking hamentashen. Chag sameach!
Megan Moore I am so curious as to who takes these pictures of you and Priscilla. Do you have a tripod or are there constantly people in your house with you?
Mark Zuckerberg My sister Donna was baking with us and she took the photo.
Omry Yadan I finally know what hamentashen is!
Never made the connection to Purim before
Mark Zuckerberg Hamen was the villain of Purim and he famously had a three-cornered hat. These symbolize the victory over him
Duba Kanaka Rao Great to see you both enjoying your time for a happy family day. And now we see the world’s richest and the happiest Facebook Chefs! Your kids must have enjoyed eating the dish!
Ari Claus You are an inspiration and love how you share your special moments with us on Facebook!!!!!! God bless you and your family always
Thuy Dam The simple life. Congratulations for having identified the secret to a successful life at your young age! Your parents have done excellent jobs in raising you both.
Dustin Lee Wilson Mark, could you tell me why I’ve been blocked from Facebook marketplace? I’ve had to contact Facebook and even enter my drivers license. I’ve done nothing wrong, in fact I often sell and purchase items off the Facebook marketplace. I’m just confused. Thought maybe you knew what was up since I’ve gotten no response. Thanks
Pita Pita Valencia Love that you show that you are still human like the rest of us. Some execs and folks at your level forget that human connection w the rest of us goes along way. Blessings to you and family!
Max Gonzalez Will you come to the Purple Rain Cafe and let me know if I put too much garlic in my pizza sauce? I either put too much garlic or basil. You see, I can eat tomato sauce as a meal I love it so much . My three favorite foods are tomato, garlic and basil, so it’s hard for me to tell. I could use a second opinion.
Michael Douglas Huff Good to see such a close-knit family cut from good cloth I just lost my mom all I had left and my siblings kind of went the other way so I raise my little boy by myself. And The Grieving is very difficult to balance
Belden Oma Koron Jewish people are something to study to become successful. For centuries the world mistreated the Jewish, but it was a way of giving them the best the sight to see unseen ways to become successful.
The Purim is a remarkable movement of remembering the struggles.
I admire the way you remember your history. The world know much about Jewish than any other groups of people.
Mark and I are proud to support 41 organizations dedicated to making the Bay Area a more equitable, inclusive place. Yesterday, we had the chance to bring many of the leaders behind those organizations together in one place.
I spoke with Angie Ibarra, the executive director of Generations United, an organization serving low income families in Redwood City through educational programs and tutoring centers and matching local volunteers with children to mentor. At the root of their work is a belief in the power of connecting people from different generations through teaching and mentorship.
We feel very fortunate to learn from such inspiring local partners who are working towards a more connected world where everyone has access to opportunity. To all of our new partners, thank you for joining us on our journey, and for letting us be a part of yours.
Happy New Year!
Danial Zahoor Many people here try to destroy other people’s joy of celebrating the festival by writing their biased and selfish arguments. However I’m not bothered by those negative things because I understand it’s very easy for certain people to get jealous of others’ happiness that they doesn’t have. Thus, leave your negatives behind and let the positives get around, happy Chinese New Year for all!
Kamal Ali Elmehdi Hi Mark
I have a problem in comment so my friends can not comment to them and I want to share them Hatta is not less than a short time please ban the ban and thank you very much
Stevenson Timango This family is by far one of the most inspiring rich families I’ve ever known. Both Mark and Priscilla are humble and this isn’t common among affluent men specially these days. One thing I still remember until now is the picture where Mark is making dumplings with his wife. Who, among billionaire husbands, do that? Wealth makes us busy in other matters aside from family but it’s evident Mark makes sure his family is one of his priorities in life. Mark, do you remember your speech at Harvard? You shed tears in that speech and it’s still fresh in my memory… thinking that I have memory loss problem.
Charles White First there were the two us. Then baby made three. Second baby makes four. What an awesome young family.
Nancy Garcia Happy New Year to you and your family. I remember in the hotel where I worked in Puerto Rico they would bring in a Dragon ( not real of course) and they would have it run through out the casino and hotel. Beautiful!
Cathrine KaKee Tang “Happy Chinese New Year of the Dog”, to the whole Zuckerberg’s loving and adorable family!!! Wishing them: Happiness, Health, Prosperity, Growth and Peace🌷 Thank You for sharing such a Wonderful and Blessed moment!!
Hersilia Restrepo Happy Chinese New Year to you all! Mark and Pricilla, you have the world’s ear, please, for your children’s sake, for all children’s sake, TAKE A STRONG STAND AGAINST GUNS IN AMERICA, this carnage must end and voices (and resources) like yours can help make a difference!
Anne-marie Tassaert Happy new chinese year ! Best wishes People of China and all around the world . Happy new year Mrs. Priscilla Chan-Zuckerberg , Max , August , M. Mark Zuckerberg and beast ( year of dog it is say ) Thank’s for this beautiful photo of the family . Good color red .
Perfecto Rivera Happy New Year guys enjoy those kids while they are little, they grow up fast. Bless you both and your kids.
Cuilian He-wakeshima Doing business with moral, and how many greedy business out there is just for profit and care nothing about moral. They cheat, hide the negative side, their product can kill millions people’s lives, but they hide the fact and let people die from that just they can make money out from the public pocket. But you are different, you dare to tell the public sometimes the facebook is not too good for you, you tell people the true, or at least this point is true. Just from this point, I truly respect what you have done to the public. Keep on doing so please, you can be the role model for the world. Happy new year to you and your beautiful family. The society will be proud of you
Hooshik Carapeti Priscilla and Mark Zuckerberg, Happy New Year with your beautiful children.Thank you very much, for safe Facebook. We all appreciate your hard work making everybody happy. Wish everybody will have free Internet in the World specially in Africa, the youth are deprived of connecting like all of us. I always think of them living without connecting to people in this World, which would make them to grow up more happy. The connection brings motivation for youth, learning new inventions, news of the World and different cultural values. Will bring changes to their lives.
Gabriel Onyekwere I have to make my family my number one priority in life. Mark is a inspiration to us all. His humility, simple dress pattern and dispositions despite his worth, ignites my passion alot…Mark Zuckerberg`s wife Chinese oh love her
Charlie McCarthy Having raised a lot of kids I really love this pic…Always be truthful because , of all things, honesty, is what the children remember..We need to put more focus on what the kids sense.
Michael Merlan Gardner Happy New Year. A great year to have your techs fix the issues Facebook mobile has with Windows Phones like my Nokia. It’s hard enough without an app that works, but now even the most basic functions like hitting any of the buttons across the blue top like notifications, messages, newsfeed, etc don’t even work on fb mobile. Please make it the best New Year for all of us facebookers.
She makes me believe in the impossible. That’s the power of love.
Today, I am excited to share the first grantees of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s Community Fund.
The Bay Area has been Mark and my home for the past decade. We love the Bay Area and we want to make it a place where individuals from all backgrounds can thrive. We’ve been fortunate to work firsthand with so many incredible organizations and community leaders – a commitment we’ve been able to build on since founding CZI. The grants we are announcing today support 41 Bay Area organizations doing innovative, inspiring work to strengthen their communities, taking on some of the most pressing issues facing residents in Belle Haven, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City.
We created the Community Fund at CZI to be able to respond to local community needs around education, housing, homelessness, immigration, transportation, and workforce development – priorities identified by local residents and groups as areas in need of greater support and investment.
The CZI Community Fund is one way we’re working towards building a more fair and inclusive world, starting here at home. There’s still plenty of work to do, but we’re excited to be taking the next step toward creating the community all Bay Area residents deserve.
The biomedical research landscape is growing and changing daily, as researchers publish their findings in journals around the world. It is a daunting amount of information for any scientist to take in, let alone learn from and build upon. If we hope to cure, prevent, or manage all diseases in our children’s lifetime, we must help scientists find new ways to explore, navigate, and reason across research.
To address this challenge, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is collaborating with Andrew McCallum and his lab at the UMass Center for Data Science to build an AI-driven map of scientific knowledge. The goal is to create a tool that lets scientists explore research in a highly visual way. Through it, scientists would not only be able to explore and discover new findings, they could also see how those findings fit within the context of everything we know about science and medicine. By uncovering patterns between different areas of research, Computable Knowledge could potentially point scientists in new directions for their experiments.
This tool will be made available for free for all scientists through the Meta platform. We’re proud to collaborate with leaders like Andrew McCallum and look forward to learning from him as his team works to create a tool that will accelerate the pace of scientific progress.
On any given day, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is buzzing with visiting experts and leaders who inspire us and help inform our work across science, education, and justice and opportunity. Michelle Kuo, author of “Reading with Patrick,” is one such leader whose experience teaching and learning alongside her incarcerated former student led her to become an advocate of criminal justice reform. We’re grateful for Michelle’s perspective and look forward to sharing more insight from leaders we’ve learned from.
Albertha Dawson Schmid Great interview on a timely topic. Education is definitely one of the main, essential pieces.
Even though I have worked in higher ed for over 20 years, it wasn’t until recently that I realized how integral a re-entry program is for those who truly have changed. We have an amazing re-entry program at my college and the director is a huge part of its success. She was given a chance and through that chance, she has helped countless people.
Thanks again for this great interview!
Mark and I are sad to hear about Mayor Lee’s passing this morning. We were fortunate to work with him on a number of different projects – from education to healthcare and housing to immigration. His love for the Bay Area shone through in all his work, as well as his belief that together we can create fairer, more inclusive communities. Our hearts go out to his wife and their two daughters.
Thank you for your support !
